Third Week of Advent 2017

Advent Prayer of Joy

“Weeping may endure for a night,
But joy comes in the morning”
(Psalm 30:5)

a cold wind whips
against my soul;

broken ice pushes up
on the shores of my heart,

a melting.

Glaciers hold the snows
of a thousand winters.

Winters clinging
to the cliffs of my heart,
memories of
forgotten promises,
words unspoken,
tender touches
never felt.

In the darkest of days,
when the sun itself
hangs in a shadowy horizon,

Your light
Your warmth
Your hope,

touches the broken edges
of this glacial heart.

There is great beauty
in a

I finally let go
of the blue, frozen
I grasped so tightly;

pieces sink and melt
into the oceans
of your love.

Light radiates
from beneath the fragments—

JOY, at last!
